Make a Difference in the World

You cannot help others until you help yourself first

You cannot help others until you've helped yourself first.

People are sometimes overwhelmed by the seeming impossibility of the demands of life. We wonder how one person (us) can make a difference. The problem with this kind of thinking is that we use it as an excuse to do nothing.

Within our circle of influence, the best we can do is all we can do — and then be content to leave the rest to others.

At various times in your life, you will be faced with a critical decision: Shouldn’t we be “thinking of others” and help them rather than be selfish and help ourselves?

To deal with this decision, we must be aware of the flat tire syndrome.

Imagine yourself driving along in your car. You see your friends walking alongside the road and think to pullover and help them with a ride. Suddenly you discover you have a flat tire. What needs to be done first? What are your priorities?

You cannot help others until you help yourself first.

As the quality of our thinking, doing and being improves, we are better able to help others as we move along more successfully down the road of life.

Winners help themselves first, and then help others learn how to help themselves.
