Have you ever listened to a song where two singers blend their voices to produce a single, harmonious tone? The artists express their unique, individual talents — and the result is something beautiful.

Living in harmony is a wonderful ideal. And it is attainable. In fact, it seems we were designed to be “incomplete” so that we would need to combine our skills with others to have a beautiful and successful life.

One of the richest, most rewarding experiences in life is to find someone to enjoy your future with. Loving relationships add meaning and significance while enhancing the quality of our lives.

The shared responsibility of working to build a family that lives, works and plays together, in an environment of love is a joy that cannot be understood by anyone who has not experienced it.

The process starts with each individual. We must love, value and respect ourselves before we can add any significance to another’s life. In turn, it extends to our significant other and then to our immediate family. After reaching out to our extended family and friends, the process finally allows us to develop a respect and love for all humanity.

Partners have their own responsibilities, whether they are earning a living, cooking, cleaning, mowing the lawn, or reading bedtime stories. While diverse talents are helpful, it is essential that there are common shared values. If not, are you working towards a future together?

Lastly, it is not uncommon for partners to go through “growth spurts” at different times.. This can cause tension and stress in a relationship until balance is restored. It’s important to work through these challenges, as they are a normal part of the ebb and flow of human relationships. See them for what they are: temporary obstacles that can serve to strengthen your life together.
