Have you ever noticed how our lives seem to revolve around entertainment?

Sure, we all work long, hard days only to get home and see more work—kids, laundry, cleaning, parents. And we all deserve a break. But our society has segued from using entertainment as a means of relaxation to using it as a means of escapism.

There are reality (and we use this term loosely) shows popping up everywhere to entertain us—Survivor, The Bachelorette, Biggest Loser, the return of Donald Trump on The Apprentice, American Idol, and Dancing with the stars to name a few.

But the real question is will entertainment get you what you want? Or is it just a diversion that sometimes acts like quicksand?

It’s really like the tail wagging the dog. We work to get ahead. But typical work doesn’t always put us as far ahead as we’d like. So we set goals. But what happens when we take a break and rest? Do we start again, or simply stay put on the couch?

This point brings us to our next question. How are you doing with your New Year’s Resolutions? It’s a good time to revisit our goals set at the beginning of the year.

Congratulations if you’re meeting your goals. But if you’ve found yourself taking a break, remember, the longer you stay put, the harder it is to get up.

Entertainment plays a valuable role in our lives, just don’t let it become your lead character.
